That we are in the midst of the greatest financial crisis since the Great Depression of the 1930s, is an established fact. What makes our present situation very much more disturbing is the fact that Globalisation has spread the crisis across the globe. So we are faced with a Great Global Recession. 

What could be the genesis of the mess in which we find ourselves? Economists and Politicians have assigned many ‘technical’ reasons for our present problems. With a few exceptions they are afraid to admit to is that the main reason for our present predicament is the lowering of Values and Standards in our consumer, commercial and business dealings and the all-encompassing greed that seems to have become a way of life for so very many of us. 

Trust and Integrity, which should have been the norms by which we assessed our political and commercial organisations were rationalized away in favour of so called economic growth. Today the Values are forgotten and growth has given way to melt-downs. When Corporations and Governments talk about Corporate Social Responsibility and governing for and in the interest of the people, are they putting in place a values-driven buisness practice, or is it just a case of masking self interest and accumulation of personal wealth? 

Caux Initiatives of Business, a programme of Initiatives of Change, is organising its Annual Conference for 2009 in Panchgani, Maharashtra, India, between the 20-24 November 2009.

The conference will be held in the beautiful and tranquil environment of Asia Plateau, the Initiatives of Change conference centre, in the hill station of Panchgani, in Maharashtra, Western Indian.
